Description

Backups commonly include data which is normally accessible only to specific users (and people with physical access to the backed up computer).

Unintended people can more easily gain access to hotplug storage used with bung than to the backed up computer itself via loss or theft etc.

To safeguard backed up data against access by unintended people it could be encrypted, ideally guarded by two-factor authentication.

Any solution should be:
  • Robust (commonly restores are wanted quickly and restorers are unpractised at restoring)
  • Operationally simple (users have little patience with demanding security systems)
