The connection is slow. What to do?¶
TODO: create a separate page for the "Power cycle the network devices" steps (same text is used on The connection is not working. What to do?)
- If there is a download running, wait for it to finish or pause it
- Test the internal speed using http://speedtest.aurinoco.net (requires using Aurinoco's DNS service, details at Which_DNS_servers_to_use). Take a screen shot of the result
- Test the Internet speed using http://www.speedtest.net/. When the map appears select Bangalore, Bharti Airtel (needs some patience and ingenuity). It is the only test server we have found to give consistently credible results. Take a screen shot of the result
- Power cycle the network devices
- For GPON Users
- Turn off the router (TP-Link).
- Turn off the Modem.
- Turn on the Modem and wait for all the lights to come on.
- Turn on the router and wait for all the lights to come on.
- Check the speed.
- For Non-GPON Users
- Turn off the router (TP-Link).
- Turn on the router and wait for all the lights to come on.
- For GPON Users
- For WiFi users
- If the WiFi signal is low move the modem closer to the computer.
- If that is not practicable or the WiFi signal is still too low, upgrade your router to a more powerful model.
- Is the connection slow for all Internet services? All websites? Email etc.?
- If it's just Internet browsing, try various websites to see if they are all affected.
- If it's just emails maybe the problem is with the email server. Give them time to fix it and re-test.
If the above steps didn't fix the Internet connection speed, contact Aurinoco via How to contact Aurinoco? by email including a screen shot of the speed test.
